Equality Objectives & Accessibility

At Lindhead School, we are committed to promoting equality, inclusion and accessibility for all members of our school community. This page sets out how we meet our duties under the Equality Act 2010, including the Public Sector Equality Duty, and how we ensure pupils with disabilities can access education and school life.

Accessibility of information

If you require any information on this page in an alternative format, or need support accessing documents, please contact the school office.

Our statutory duties

Schools are required under the Equality Act 2010 to have due regard to the need to:

  • eliminate unlawful discrimination, harassment and victimisation

  • advance equality of opportunity

  • foster good relations

Schools must also have an Accessibility Plan that sets out how access to the curriculum, physical environment and information is improved for pupils with disabilities.

Annual Equality Information Update (2025–26)

(Public Sector Equality Duty)

In line with the requirements of the Equality Act 2010 and the Public Sector Equality Duty (PSED), Lindhead School publishes equality information annually to demonstrate how we are having due regard to the need to:

  • eliminate unlawful discrimination, harassment and victimisation

  • advance equality of opportunity between people who share a protected characteristic and those who do not

  • foster good relations between different groups

This statement provides an annual update for the 2025–26 academic year and should be read alongside the school’s Equality Information and Objectives (approved November 2024) and Accessibility Plan (approved June 2024).

Pupil and school context

Lindhead School is a one-form entry primary school serving a diverse range of pupils and families. The school monitors the impact of its policies, practices and provision on different groups of pupils, including those with protected characteristics, to ensure that all pupils have fair access to education and are supported to achieve well.

Equality considerations are embedded within the school’s safeguarding arrangements, SEND provision, behaviour policy, curriculum design and wider school improvement work.

Advancing equality of opportunity

During the 2025–26 academic year, the school has continued to:

  • monitor pupil achievement and progress across groups, including by gender, disability and ethnicity, and respond where additional support is required

  • prioritise inclusive and adaptive teaching approaches to ensure pupils with additional needs or disabilities can access the curriculum effectively

  • provide targeted pastoral and family support where barriers to attendance, engagement or learning are identified

  • ensure reasonable adjustments are made for pupils with disabilities, including in relation to learning, assessment, trips and enrichment activities

Attendance and engagement continue to be monitored closely, recognising the strong link between attendance and achievement and the need to support families where challenges arise.

Fostering good relations

The school actively promotes respect, tolerance and understanding through:

  • a broad and balanced curriculum, including PSHE and RE

  • assemblies and themed events that promote equality, diversity and shared values

  • a reading curriculum that increasingly reflects a diverse range of authors, characters and lived experiences

  • opportunities for pupil voice, including the school council

These approaches support positive relationships across the school community and help pupils to develop an understanding of difference.

Accessibility and inclusion

Accessibility for pupils with disabilities is addressed through the school’s Accessibility Plan (2024–2027), which focuses on:

  • increasing access to the curriculum

  • improving and maintaining the physical environment

  • improving the availability of accessible information

An accessibility audit is reviewed regularly, and actions are taken where improvements are identified.

Equality objectives

The school’s current equality objectives were reviewed and approved by the Governing Body in November 2024 and cover the period to November 2028. These objectives continue to guide the school’s work and remain appropriate at this time.

Monitoring and review

Equality information is reviewed annually by the Headteacher and reported to Governors as part of the school’s wider monitoring and accountability arrangements.

The next formal review of the Equality Information and Objectives will take place in line with the published review cycle.
