Healthy Schools
Lindhead School is proud to have achieved the North Yorkshire Healthy Schools Silver Award in July 2025. This recognises our ongoing work to support children’s health, wellbeing, personal development and sense of belonging across school life.
For the Silver Award, we completed two Healthy Schools themes: Emotional Health & Wellbeing and PSHE, alongside the required Staff Wellbeing section. This builds on our wider Healthy Schools work around active lives, food in school, pupil voice and healthy choices.
As part of our Healthy Schools Silver work, we strengthened PSHE across the school. We use the 1Decision scheme from EYFS through to Year 6, supported by our RSE policy, planned curriculum time, staff training, pupil voice and parent information. PSHE is taught regularly and helps children learn about relationships, safety, emotions, healthy choices, growing up and asking for help. We also use local information, including the Growing Up in North Yorkshire survey, to identify priorities and adapt our provision to meet the needs of our pupils.
As part of our Healthy Schools Silver work, we strengthened our approach to Emotional Health & Wellbeing across the school. We used pupil voice and Growing Up in North Yorkshire survey information to identify priorities, including children’s happiness, safety and ability to manage worries. This work has included developing The Hive as a supportive space for pupils who need help with regulation or emotional wellbeing, introducing myHappymind, using approaches such as Zones of Regulation and Boxall where appropriate, and ensuring children know that trusted adults are available when they need support.
As part of our Healthy Schools Silver work, we also strengthened our focus on Staff Wellbeing. Lindhead has signed up to the DfE Education Staff Wellbeing Charter, confirming our commitment to protect, enhance and improve the wellbeing of adults in school. This work includes staff voice, wellbeing conversations, leadership wellbeing, access to support, training, and ongoing review. We know that children benefit when the adults around them are supported, listened to and able to work together as part of a healthy school community.
