"We Are A Reading School!"

The infographics above give a quick overview of how reading develops at Lindhead, but there is much more behind our approach.

We teach early reading through Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised, a carefully sequenced phonics programme used from Reception into Year 2. Children learn phonics every day, read books matched to the sounds they know, and receive extra support quickly if they need more practice.

As children move through school, reading continues to develop through stories, poems, non-fiction, class texts, guided reading, vocabulary work and reading across the curriculum. We want children to become fluent, thoughtful readers who enjoy books and use reading to help them understand the world.

Families can support reading at home by listening to children read, sharing books together, talking about stories and encouraging regular reading for pleasure.
