Year 1
In Year 1, children begin their journey into the National Curriculum through an exciting, broad programme of learning that builds on the foundations of EYFS. Across the year, themes such as Walk Into the Wild, Once Upon a Time, Fantastic Voyages and If I Were a… inspire children to read, write, explore and create. They enjoy a wide range of stories, poetry and non-fiction, and begin to write for different purposes – from nature diaries to fairy tales and imaginative new adventures. In maths, they develop confidence with number, shape, measure and problem-solving, while science brings hands-on investigations into the seasons, plants, animals and materials. History and geography take them from their own memories and toys of the past to explorers and faraway places, and the arts give plenty of opportunities to paint, sculpt, design, sing and perform. With PE, computing, music, RE and PSHE woven through the year, Year 1 provides a rich, balanced curriculum that nurtures curiosity, creativity and growing independence. Our curriculum is published to parents here on the website and we also use a weekly message on Class Dojo.
