Welcome to Lindhead School
We are a community school and part of the Scarborough Teaching Alliance, which supports staff training and development at all levels. Whether you are visiting our website as a prospective pupil, parent, teacher, volunteer or governor, we hope to give you an insight into our nurturing and ambitious school.
Surrounded by the North Yorkshire Moors National Park, and sitting between the coastal towns of Scarborough and Whitby, this village school has been on its present site since 1974. Lindhead is a popular and expanding school and extensions to the original building were added in 2002 and 2008.
Our attractive school grounds are a real asset and provide a quality environment for children to learn and play. They include a sports field, picnic tables for outdoor dining, adventure playgrounds, wooden dens adjacent to a tree-lined boardwalk, hard surface areas, covered decking surrounded by a small orchard and a productive gardening area.
Staff and pupils
We make sure we fully understand the ability and potential of each child and give them every opportunity to thrive and be the best that they can be through our enhanced and creative curriculum.
We want our children to be caring, honest individuals who know how to stay healthy and keep themselves safe showing respect, consideration and tolerance for the values and opinions of others (British values). This is embedded in our curriculum and delivered through our Personal, Social and Health Education provision, assemblies and extra-curriclar activities. We believe that our children need to understand the need for sustainability and know that they have a part to play in taking care of the world.
Children are encouraged to work hard, achieve well, have high aspirations, think creatively and critically in order to reach their full potential regardless of ability. We offer an exciting range of experiences to help them acquire new skills and knowledge, equipping them for life in a diverse, technological and global society.
The staff team continually seeks excellence; we are strongly self- reflective and work collaboratively with other schools to further improve provision and outcomes for our children. We build on strengths and constantly strive to address and improve identified areas for development.
Please see our Aims and Vision Statement in the documents section of our polices page.
Families and Community
Our school has a warm and friendly atmosphere and we firmly believe in the establishment of a genuine partnership between home and school and encourage family involvement where possible. We expect a parent or carer to attend termly consultation meetings relating to their child’s needs and progress. We work hard together to make Lindhead a happy and successful school. Everyone is welcome to participate in our popular community events and celebration assemblies. We are proud of our very good reputation in the community and surrounding areas.
In March 2017 Ofsted judged our school to be good in all categories and confirmed that,
“You, your leaders and staff are firmly focused on developing the whole child, so that they are armed with the drive, aspiration, determination and resilience to flourish and prosper in the future. Pupils are given exciting opportunities both within and outside of the curriculum to hone, develop and practise these key skills. Pupils are growing into the responsible young people who have the skills to make a positive contribution to our society. Parents are overwhelmingly positive about the staff’s dedication and resolve.”
